One of the biggest trends in the fitness industry right now is the bootcamp-style class. In a bootcamp class, a large group of people meet with a trainer, usually outdoors rather than inside a health club or gym, and workout for an hour. The trainer usually leads the participants in exercises designed to get them into better shape and works with them over a span of 4-8 weeks.
Now that actually does sound a lot like what Body Back is all about. We meet twice a week for 6-8 weeks, often outside (if weather permits), and our instructors work hard to help their participants make huge strides in their fitness. But there are MANY things Body Back offers that the typical bootcamp does not.
1) Smaller Group = More Individualized Attention
Some local bootcamps allow up to 50 people per session, but a Body Back class may have as little as 5. It will never have more than 12 participants. That means you are getting much more attention from your trainer than you would in a larger group even though you are paying a similar price for the session.
2) A Trainer Who Knows Your Needs
All Body Back trainers are certified fitness professionals. Most are personal trainers and/or certified in group fitness from nationally recognized bodies like ACE or AFAA, and all of them are trained in post-natal fitness and fitness for women. That means they know exactly what a woman needs to work on after having a baby, even if she had her baby 30 years ago, and they know exactly how to help her make the changes she is there to make.
3) Mama Wants Her Body Back DVD
When you sign up for Body Back, you are getting more than just the workouts. You are also getting a DVD that includes 20-minute workouts you can do at home on days when you don’t meet with your trainer. They don’t require a lot of space or equipment, and they are led by a nationally recognized expert on fitness for motherhood: Lisa Druxman. She is the founder of Stroller Strides and Body Back, and she’s also a mom.
4) No Diet Gimmicks
In addition to the workouts and the DVD, you also get a food journal meal, and a variety of recipes to help you meet your fitness goals. There are no pills or shakes or rules about what you absolutely must cut out of your diet. Instead you are encouraged to eat whole foods rather than processed foods and to eat mindfully, keeping track of what you eat on a day-to-day basis, and your trainer will help you to make smart food choices along the way. A nice bonus here is that you will begin to make more healthy food choices for your family along the way as well!
5) Proven Effectiveness
The Body Back workouts “have been clinically proven in a University research study to help moms lose the weight and get their pre-baby body back.”Using High Intensity Interval Training focusing on a combination of cardio, strength, and core work, Body Back workouts are designed to help women focus on the areas they need to strengthen, especially after childbirth (no matter how long ago that was).
6) Inspiration
The caterpillar must work hard to free itself from its cocoon so it can emerge a new creature, a beautiful butterfly. The image of the butterfly reminds Body Back participants that while it may take time and hard work to reach their fitness goals, the results (a renewed sense of self worth and self love as well as a new healthy body) are worth it, and nothing worth achieving comes easy. You can’t take a pill and see lasting changes overnight, but in Body Back you will be inspired to keep working hard to achieve the goals you set for yourself. Plus every Body Back workout ends with a rejuvenating and inspiring moment for all participants.
7) Women Supporting Women, Moms Supporting Moms
Not only will your Body Back class be taught by a fellow mom, but many of the other members of your class will be moms as well. We are all busy women, and we know how hard it can be to make time for ourselves. In connecting with others who have similar responsibilities and demands on our time, we help each other to realize that it’s important to schedule time for ourselves, and we are there to help each other succeed.
8) Motivation and Support
Your connection to your trainer and the other moms in your class doesn’t end when the workout is over. You also get access to a private online community where you can share your goals and your achievements and ask your trainer for help when you need it.
9) Supporting Small Mom-Owned Businesses
When you sign up for a Body Back session, you are probably supporting a small, family-owned business, and one that is most likely run by a mom. You aren’t just helping yourself succeed. You are also helping support your local economy and a local family who is working hard to make ends meet.
10) Happy, Healthy Mom = Happy, Healthy Family
The changes you make to your life during a Body Back session can carry over and help you make better choices for your family, and your success will inspire others in your family to make better choices themselves. A healthy mom is a happy mom, and a happy mom makes a happy family!
